After a short break-in time, the specially structured foam is used to establish cleaning bacteria, which ensure intensive biodegradation of pollutants. The mats are reusable.

This EHEIM filter compound set is available in different versions to match the individual filters (classic 250, classic 350 and classic 600). It consists of EHEIM MECH as pre-filter compound and EHEIM SUBSTRATpro as bio-filter medium. The EHEIM MECH consists of ceramic hollow bodies, which take over the pre-filtering of the water. They are easy to clean and reusable. The EHEIM SUBSTRATpro consists of spherically sintered quartz. The surface of the beads ensures an intensive settlement of important purification bacteria. It can form a dense bacterial lawn. This filter medium is reusable. All filter media are suitable for both marine- and freshwater.
